The establishing shot is of a CD being put into a CD player. This is what then switches on the music to the trailer making it seem as if it is diegetic noise however, they would have added the music in during the editing process making it non - diegetic.
For the first 35 seconds of the trailer, they have made it seem very happy and very family orientated. They have the song 'Perfect day' playing in the background with shots of the family talking to each other. We find out that they go away for a weekend because we are shown long shots of a car driving down dusty roads and them pulling up at a house they are not familure with.
Writing pops up saying 'A perfect weekend' then a few medium shots and close up shots are shown of the family talking about how much it means that they are all there. Then more writing pops up saying 'A perfect family' By repeating the words 'Perfect' makes the audience think that nothing will go wrong.
A panning close up shot is shown of the family hold each other hands when they begin to say Grace at the beginning of a meal. This shows that they are religious and could be seen as the 'perfect' family to the audience.A low pitch non - diegetic sound comes in as the other music stops. This creates a mood change towards the audience as it seems as if it will not be as happy anymore.
The music changes as a POV medium shot of the mother is shown pouring a glass of water. This makes it seem as if someone is watching her through the window creating tension within the audience. After a couple of seconds a reflection of someone wearing a white mask pops up. This could give a fright to the audience as a high pitch noise starts to play as well.
The shot then changes quickly to a black screen with words that say 'Everything will change' with a loud and low noise of a piano. They have added in blinking effect of shots with black barriers in between. This makes the audience feel pressured and as if lots of things are happening at once as they do not have time to focus on one shot before the next one pops up. The audience is shown panic and confusion within the characters, this is because they are shown running around the house screaming and trying to find cover.
Writing is drawn on a mirror of which looks like it has been done with blood. This leaves an enigma within the audience because it says 'You're next' without showing or telling you what it means or who is next.
The song that is playing throughout the beginning of the trailer when the happiest moments are shown is also played at the end when the scariest moments are shown. This creates a huge contrast as it can be linked into both scary and happy parts of the film.
